Beekeeping courses.
The beekeeping courses offered by ApiGuru Inc. are aimed at the beginning backyard beekeepers to give them a unique perception of the backyard beekeeping philosophy and practices. The courses are based on some 20 years of backyard/urban/small scale beekeeping experience of the ApiGuru founder Branislav Babic and the instructions go well beyond the widely taught conventional/commercial beekeeping practices that in many aspects may be irrelevant to the backyard beekeepers. Rather than regurgitating the information that is available in the beekeeping books and on the world wide web, the courses rather focus on the practical application of the beekeeping knowledge, on differentiation of what is important and what is not, on the relation between the climate, hives, bees and the beekeepers, and practically teach the sustainable approach to the beekeeping on a small scale. Backyard beekeeping is rarely for-profit, and as such is a source of genetic diversity of the honey bees (sometimes a source of problems too), it is a place for innovation and beekeeping on budget, a place for pushing the envelopes. Backyard beekeeping is not about trying to produce as much honey as possible, or controlling the swarming, or fighting the diseases,...it is about achieving a harmony between that one bee colony in the corner of the garden, its environment and their human custodian. Indeed the ultimate goal of the ApiGuru is not to teach anyone how to become a beekeeper, but rather to teach how to become a bee-shepherd and how to learn the art of beekeeping from the masters themselves,...the bees.
